A locksmith.
A doctor.
A florist.
A handyman.
A moving company.
Over the years we’ve built up a small list of local contacts that we find ourselves sharing again and again.
Not because they’re the biggest.
Simply because they’ve looked after us, our family, our home and our clients.
Hopefully this list helps you find yours.
🏥 Medical Services & Emergency Care
Let’s start with the most important one.
For urgent medical care, many local residents use Quirónsalud Campo de Gibraltar in Palmones, Hospiten Estepona or Vithas Estepona.
Both Quirónsalud and Hospiten offer Accident & Emergency departments with paediatric services, making them popular choices for families. Vithas Estepona also offers an emergency department and is another useful option to have saved.
One service that deserves special mention is Helicópteros Sanitarios.
Despite the name, most members will never see a helicopter.
For approximately €500 per year, a family of five can access a 24-hour service that includes a GP, two nurses and an ambulance attending your home if required.
For families with children, it can mean a doctor coming to you rather than a late-night trip to A&E. The service is equally useful following a fall, accident, sports injury or any situation where travelling isn’t advisable.

💊 Pharmacies
Sotogrande and the surrounding area are served by four local pharmacies, with a rotating out-of-hours system ensuring that one is always available.
To find the current farmacia de guardia, we usually use SGPlus.
Our own go-to pharmacy is Farmacia Sotogrande in Plaza Blanca. In addition to long opening hours, they also assist customers via WhatsApp, making it easy to check availability or ask questions before making the trip.
🔑 Locksmiths
A locksmith is one of those contacts you don’t think about until the moment you need one.
Our recommendation is Adam from King Locksmith. We originally met Adam when upgrading locks around our own property and appreciated his practical approach. Rather than simply replacing everything, he took the time to explain how different materials and finishes react to the Sotogrande climate and recommended solutions that suited our home.
Whether supplying and fitting new locks or installing hardware you’ve already purchased, he’s become a trusted contact.
🔨 Handyman, Furniture Assembly & Home Repairs
If you’ve ever assembled IKEA furniture, you’ll understand why having a good handyman’s number saved is a sensible idea.
Miguel from CasaFix originally came to our house to assemble some IKEA furniture and, somehow, never really left.
Over the years he has helped with everything from furniture assembly and installations to the sort of maintenance jobs that are easy to forget about until they become urgent — gutters being a good example.
His wife Lorena specialises in upholstery and rug cleaning, helping refresh sofas, chairs, carpets and soft furnishings.
🪟 Window Cleaning
Anyone who has lived in the UK will probably understand this one.
Regular window cleaning is something many of us simply took for granted. Then we moved to Spain and realised it wasn’t always easy to find the same type of service.
Fortunately, we were introduced to Ray, owner of The English Window Cleaning Company.
Between sea air, pollen, dust, sunscreen and children’s fingerprints, windows in Sotogrande can need attention more often than many people expect. Ray provides the sort of reliable service that many British homeowners will immediately recognise.
👔 Dry Cleaning, Laundry & Ironing
Our recommendation is Tintorería Chanos in Guadiaro, a family-owned business that we’ve trusted for years.
One of the services we use most frequently is their bedding package, which costs approximately €10 per set for washing and ironing, with a typical turnaround of around one week.
Simple, reliable and consistently useful.
💐 Flowers
For arrangements and special occasions, Florium and Areka are two of the area’s best-known florists.
Florium provides the weekly floral displays at Finca Cortesin, whilst Areka is a popular choice for gifts, events and home arrangements.
Our favourite local tip, however, is Viveros Martín on the road to San Enrique.
Whilst primarily known as a garden centre, they receive fresh flowers every Thursday and often have bunches available for under €10.
The only catch? They tend to sell out quickly, so arriving early is recommended.
🚚 Moving, Transport & Large Item Collection
Whether you’re moving home, furnishing a property or collecting a marketplace purchase, having the right contact can save a great deal of time and stress.
One of the contacts we regularly recommend is Daniel from PSR Removals.
We’ve used his services ourselves and regularly recommend him to clients.
His work ranges from collecting furniture from the very active local marketplace groups to transporting larger items across Spain and beyond. Over the years he’s helped with everything from furniture collections in Valencia to bringing a jet ski back from Italy.
🚗 Car Hire
Even if you don’t need a rental car yourself, there’s a good chance that visiting friends and family will.
Taxis can be limited during busy periods and services such as Uber and Bolt are not generally available in Sotogrande.
We’ve rented several times from Avis and have always appreciated the convenience of having a local office in Pueblo Nuevo, operated by the same team as the Avis locations in La Línea and Gibraltar Airport.
This makes one-way rentals particularly straightforward and allows you to deal with real people locally rather than a central call centre.
🛒 Supermarkets
One of the advantages of life in Sotogrande is that there are plenty of shopping options within a relatively short drive.
For day-to-day shopping, many people use Supermercado El Corte Inglés and Mercadona in Sotomarket. The two complement each other well, and many residents use both.
There is also a Lidl in Pueblo Nuevo, known for its themed international food weeks and, of course, the famous middle aisle.
Supermercados Ruiz Galán is particularly useful for everyday essentials and is normally open on Sunday mornings. Directly opposite, the Chinese bazaar has rescued many residents over the years with everything from batteries and extension leads to last-minute household items.
For those looking for organic and locally sourced products, Calma Organic Shop in Pueblo Nuevo and The Blue Door in San Enrique are both worth knowing about.
For larger shops, many residents head to Palmones, where Carrefour, Mercadona and Lidl are all located within the same commercial area.
Carrefour Estepona offers a noticeably different range from the Palmones branch, particularly in the wine section and fish counter.
Hipercor in Algeciras is useful when shopping extends beyond groceries into household goods and electronics.
And for those occasions when shopping turns into a full-day activity, El Corte Inglés Marbella combines a large supermarket with one of the most extensive Club del Gourmet departments on the Costa del Sol.
Most residents eventually develop their own routine, and very few shop in just one place.
One of the nicest things about life in Sotogrande is that, over time, everybody finds their people.
Their pharmacist.
Their florist.
Their handyman.
Their locksmith.
Their favourite supermarket.
